Seven Years on the Fairway: Modular Concepts at the Marlborough Chamber’s 52nd Annual Golf Classic

How a Marlborough commercial cleaning company spent July 21 and why we keep showing up for the local business community across MA, CT & RI.

On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, we swapped floor buffers for golf carts and spent the day at Marlborough Country Club for the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 52nd Annual Golf Classic. Registration opened at 8 a.m., the shotgun start went off at 9, and Modular Concepts was there as a sponsor and with a foursome of our own. It was our seventh year backing the event.

Modular Concepts is a family-owned commercial cleaning company based right here in Marlborough, and we keep offices, medical buildings, schools, life sciences facilities, and industrial sites clean across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Buffing a lobby floor and chasing a golf ball around eighteen holes do not obviously belong in the same sentence. Stay with us.

This post is a short recap of the day, an honest answer to why a cleaning company sponsors a golf tournament seven years running, and a bit about our owner’s role at the Chamber. If you have ever wondered what a company is like when there is no client in the room, a golf course on a gray Tuesday is a fair place to check.

1. The 52nd Annual Golf Classic, In Brief

This year marked the fifty-second running of the Chamber’s Golf Classic, which makes the tournament older than a good number of the businesses playing in it. It is held at Marlborough Country Club at 200 Concord Road, a few minutes from our office. The format is a shotgun start, which means every team tees off at the same moment from a different hole rather than filing off the first tee one group at a time. It is efficient, it is a little chaotic, and it is the only context in which a horn going off is good news.

Modular Concepts sponsored the tournament and put a foursome on the course. Our name sat on the sponsor board inside, and one of our signs was staked into the turf out on the course, tagline and all. After the round, everyone came back in for lunch and awards, which is where the day quietly turns from golf into what the Chamber does best: getting local business people into the same room.

2. Who the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce Is

The Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce is the business association for Marlborough and the surrounding towns. Its motto, printed right on our tee sign, is three words: Network, Refer, Grow. That is a fair summary of what a chamber actually does. It connects local businesses to one another, advocates for them with the city and the region, and runs the events where introductions get made and referrals start.

None of that runs on air. Like chambers everywhere, the MRCC is powered by its members and by signature events like this one. Fifty-two years of this tournament is not a small thing. It is more than half a century of the same organization pulling the local business community onto the same course every summer, rain, shine, or triple bogey.

For a business that is rooted in this exact geography, the Chamber is not an abstraction. It is the room where a lot of our neighbors and clients already are.

3. Seven Years on the Sponsor Board

Seven years is the part we are quietly proud of. Any company can sponsor an event once, get the logo on the banner, and call it community involvement. Doing it seven years in a row, through good years and slow ones, is a different kind of statement. It is a habit, not a gesture.

The room fills with local business people after the round.

We think about our sponsorships the same way we think about our accounts. The value is not in the first month, it is in still being there in year seven and still meaning it. A logo that shows up once reads as marketing. A logo that shows up every summer for the better part of a decade reads as a company that decided this place is home and acted like it.

So no, we did not just discover the Chamber this year. Seven straight years on that sponsor list means the logo is not an introduction anymore, and showing up again is simply what we do.

4. Our Owner Keeps the Chamber’s Books

There is a more personal reason we are close to this organization. Our owner, Luiz DaCosta, sits on the Executive Board of the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce as its Treasurer, and has held that seat for the past four years. The Treasurer is the person responsible for the organization’s finances, which is a real job with real accountability, not an honorary title on a letterhead.

If you know how we run Modular Concepts, this will not surprise you. Luiz is the same owner who visits client sites personally as part of our quality control. The instinct to be in the room, know the details, and be personally answerable for them does not switch off when he leaves a job site. He brings it to the Chamber’s balance sheet too.

We will resist the easy joke about him being as particular with a ledger as he is with a baseboard, except that we just made it, and it is also true. Four years of volunteering to steward another organization’s money is its own kind of reference for how a person handles responsibility.

5. Why a Cleaning Company Spends a Tuesday on a Golf Course

Here is the honest version, because a sales pitch dressed up as community spirit is easy to smell. Is a sponsor sign staked into a fairway a form of marketing? Of course it is. We are not going to stand here and pretend a sign with our name on it is a charitable mystery. Getting in front of a room full of local decision-makers is a legitimate business reason, and it would be dishonest to say otherwise.

But it is not the main reason, and the seven-year track record is the tell. If this were purely a lead-generation tactic, we would have run the numbers years ago and quietly moved the budget to online ads, which are cheaper and easier to measure. We keep coming back because Modular Concepts has been serving this area since 2008 and family-owned since 2014, and when you are genuinely from a place, you invest in it without running a spreadsheet on every dollar.

The pure-marketing path is a real choice other companies make, and it is a defensible one. It is just not ours. We would rather spend the Tuesday shaking hands at the club than buying a banner ad, because the relationships outlast the round.

6. The Company We Keep on That Sponsor Board

Take a look at who else was on the sponsor board this year: Hologic, Boston Scientific, Middlesex Savings Bank, Murphy Insurance Agency, Avidia Bank, Main Street Bank, St. Mary’s Credit Union, Accounting Solutions Providers, inConcert Web Solutions, Ardent Staffing Solutions, and Chill Kitchen & Bar, among others.

The 2026 sponsor board. Our tagline, Commitment at your service, sits right under the logo.

That list is worth a second look, because it is essentially a directory of the facility types we clean: life sciences and medical device campuses, banks and credit unions, professional service offices. These are exactly the buildings where quiet, consistent commercial cleaning is not a luxury but a requirement, and it is no accident that we share a board with them. We work in this ecosystem, not just near it.

And if you looked closely at our slot on that board, our tagline was sitting right under the logo: Commitment at your service. Which brings up a fair question about whether we actually mean it.

7. What Showing Up Locally Says About How We Work

There is a straight line between how a company behaves in its community and how it behaves inside your building, and it is worth drawing. The company that renews a sponsorship every year because the commitment matters is the same company that shows up to your facility every scheduled night whether or not anyone is checking.

This is also why our no-contract model works. We do not lock clients into long-term agreements, which means we have to earn the relationship every single month, the same way we choose to earn our spot on that sponsor board every single year. Nobody is trapped with us. They stay because the work is right, and that structure only survives if the work actually is.

We are not claiming a monopoly on caring, and plenty of good operators think this way. What we can tell you is that the Modular Concepts on that fairway is the same Modular Concepts that will be in your building. There is not a community-minded version for the golf course and a different one for the job.

8. In the Interest of Full Honesty, About Our Golf

We will now address the elephant on the green. This post has said a lot about commitment and consistency, and it would be only fair to apply the same honesty to our actual golf game. We make no claims about the leaderboard. None. If there is a trophy in a Modular Concepts office, it is not from a golf tournament.

Awards and remarks at the podium after the round at the 52nd Annual Golf Classic.

The truth is we are considerably better with a floor buffer than a sand wedge, and both leave streaks when handled wrong, though only one of them is our job to fix. We are told a mulligan is essentially the golf version of a re-clean, a second pass at something that did not go right the first time, and if so, we support the concept wholeheartedly and used the feature generously.

What we lack in short game we make up for in enthusiasm and a genuinely good day out. The scorecard is between us and Marlborough Country Club, and we intend to keep it that way.

9. The Same Commitment, On and Off the Course

Strip away the golf and the day comes down to one word we take seriously: commitment. It is our tagline, and a tagline is only worth something if it holds up when nobody is grading you. A seventh straight year sponsoring a tournament, with our owner four years into stewarding the Chamber’s finances, is a decent test of whether we mean the word or just like how it sounds.

That same commitment is what our clients actually buy. We are BSCAI verified through the Building Service Contractors Association International, we work without long-term contracts, and our owner is on-site at client locations because that is how standards stay put once a company grows. Our commercial cleaning and facility maintenance services across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island run on the boring, durable version of commitment, not the flashy one.

The distinction matters because the boring version is the one that keeps a building right in month fourteen, not just month one. It is the same reason we are still on that sponsor board in year seven. Showing up again, after the novelty wears off, is the entire point.

10. The Bottom Line

The 52nd Annual Golf Classic was a good day for the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce and a good day for us, and after seven years of it, we are gladder than ever to keep showing up. Congratulations to the Chamber on another one in the books.

If you operate a commercial facility in Massachusetts, Connecticut, or Rhode Island and you want a cleaning partner whose word holds up over the long run, Modular Concepts can help.
